CANES 20th ANNUAL FILM FESTIVAL

May 4-7

BILL COSFORD CINEMA

-SCRIPT SUBMISSIONS are due April 3rd, 2017 by 8PM – (NO SCRIPTS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DATE)

 

-FILM SUBMISSIONS are due April 20th, 2017 by 8PM – (NO FILMS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DATE)

 

-On a seperate date (TBD) you will also provide a QuickTime copy of your film for festival projection.

 

-Film submissions must be uploaded to Vimeo.  If you desire to password protect your film, the password MUST be canes2017

 

-Films/videos previously screened at the Canes Film Festival in any form are not eligible for screening.

 

-Scripts previously submitted to the Canes Film Festival are not eligible for competition.

 

-Only Feature length scripts or hour long episodic TV scripts are accepted for competition.

 

-Films/videos submitted to screen at the Festival must have been completed for credit in one of the following courses during the period of Summer 2016 to Spring 2017:

•Any CIM production course

•Any CIM screenwriting course

•Any CIM independent study

•Any CIM summer abroad course

•UFILM (only APPROVED club projects)

•Others as approved by the Canes Committee

•Approved Production of DKA

 

-Only original final class projects are eligible for screening. No scenes from movies, etc.

 

-No partially completed projects.

 

-Best Film Awards and travel awards are presented to the project's producer.

 

-If the project has more than one person in a role, the main contact person’s name should be put first and the rest should follow.  

 

-No matter how many members are involved in a project selected to participate in the LA screening, the travel award is the same and the head producer will be the main contact.

 

-Only students who are currently enrolled at UM (or students enrolled at the school during production of the film/video) are eligible for prizes.

 

-Films must not exceed 20 minutes in length (including titles), with the exception of approved thesis and feature film projects.  Films OVER the assigned time limit will NOT compete or screen.

 

-Feature film projects developed under a class or for thesis must meet with the festival’s committee prior to the application deadline. NOTE: FEATURE FILMS WILL NOT be presented in LA.

 

-All Rights must be cleared. (music, etc.)

 

-The final decision on all rules, regulations and/or issues that might arise rests with the Executive Board and Faculty Advisor of the Canes Film Festival.

 

-Festival Dates: May 4-5-6-7 at the Bill Cosford Cinema.
